BACK TO HOME
A wise man once said, "haters gonna hate." And, with Philly recently making a litany of nationwide top ten lists, the phrase has never been more appropriate. For the past few years, Philly has been making great strides at becoming one of America's premiere cities. You may now be asking yourself, "Wait, I thought we'd always be New York's latchkey kid?" but you'd be very wrong. For better or worse, the rest of America is taking notice of Philly; let's just hope we don't develop a complex.

Our Sports Teams

For years, Philly wrestled an inflated self-opinion of local sports teams when faced with the reality that we really weren't all that great (see every team in the mid-to-late 90's). But the Phils were able to change that with an '08 World Series win, the Flyers with a run in the 2010 Stanley Cup finals and the Birds (and now maybe even the Sixers) with consistent post-season showings.

Our Super-Delicious Sandwiches
An April issue of Saveur Magazine voted Philly the "Best Sandwich City". Most Philadelphians will tell you that we're the obvious choice. There's the requisite cheesesteak and the Roast Pork sandwich at the forefront of the sandwich scene. But there's also tons more that Philly has to offer including (but not limited to) Chickie’s Italian Deli, Chink’s Steaks, DiNic’s, Greenman’s Delicatessen, J&G Lunchmeat Villa, Jim’s Steaks, John’s Roast Pork, Johnny’s Hots, Lenny’s Italian Deli, McNally’s Tavern and Shank’s Original Uptown.

Philly Gets Voted Most Unhealthy City For Men

Trapped by our own devices, it turns out those awesome sandwiches that define our city aren't really that healthy (who'd have thought that?). In Men's Health Magazine's list of the top 100 Best and Worst Cities for Men, Philly ranked #99. A small price to pay for sandwich greatness, but nevertheless, a notch against us when compared to those wheat grass and tofu restaurants in San Fran.

GQ Says We Have the "Worst" Sports Fans

Nevermind that GQ isn't exactly your go-to source for sports, this moniker is one that we think the city should be proud of. I won't even name past events, because we know you're already thinking of them. Although those rare instances give the rest of the city a bad name, to us, "Worst Fan" implies some lifeless weakling who refuses to scream at the other team's injured players.

SEPTA Smart Cards

Sure, every other major city has a public transportation "smart card" but now Philly will be getting their own. Couple this initiative with sleek, new Silver Line train cars and Philly is shaping up to be at least average when it comes to public transportation. Hey, maybe in sometime in the next five years we can get rid of that awful, fake wood paneling on the Regional Rails.

Various "Green" Initiatives
The Philadelphia Horticultural Society recently stated that they hope to plant one million trees (yes, you read that correctly) in the city over the next couple of years. This should help shroud our city's less pleasing building fronts, but it may also make for some seriously dangerous sidewalks for our future generations.
