Eagles Fans Boo Santa Claus

In December of 1968, Philadelphia's legacy for having the roughest fans in the Western hemisphere was born. The fabled “booing of Santa Claus,” as it's now referred to as, took place at the old Franklin Field. According to Snopes.com, a 2-11 Eagles team was facing the Minnesota Vikings on that fateful, snowy day. It was during halftime, as the scheduled Christmas Pageant commenced, when Eagles fans decided they had enough. The boos and snowballs started to fly, and a 20-year-old Frank Olivio, who was playing Father Christmas, became a timeless symbol for Philly's sports. Read more about the entire incident here

LIve Aid 1985

On July 13th, 1985, over 100,000 fans descended upon JFK Stadium for one of the biggest and most star-studded concerts in the history of Philadelphia, nay, the entire world. Madonna, Phil Collins, Teddy Pendergrass, Hall and Oates, Bob Dylan and so many others raised millions for starving Ethiopian population. It was a concert to remember, Philly's Woodstock, if you will. Since then, there have been few shows that can compare to the majesty of Live Aid, except for when Hall and Oates played the 4th of July a couple years back. That was epic.

The Moment I-76 was Completed

Ok, we gripe about I-76 a little too often here on Heyphilly.com, but anyone who's ever had to traverse the highway, or death gauntlet as I like to call it, is all too familiar with its crushing torment. Opened in 1940, the highway received its current name in 1963. But this moment in time makes our list because we'd just love to ask the builders the second they completed it, "WHY ARE THERE ONLY TWO LANES AND WHY IS ON THE SIDE OF A CLIFF!"

Johnn Bolaris' Do-Shot-Gate

In the grand scheme of things, John Bolaris getting fired will not be that memorable of a Philadelphia moment. I mean, we are the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed. But to witness the baffling series of events that Bolaris described would provide for endless entertainment for a lifetime. For those that don't know, John Bolaris was allegedly drugged and duped by to Eastern European women in Miami. In a recent Playboy interview, Bolaris intimated that he went along with duo's con because he thought he might "get laid." Unfortunately for John, Fox 29 execs weren't too thrilled with that comment, and Bolaris has since been let go.

Phillies Win the World Series in 1980

Sure, the Phils won a World Series a few years back, but how great would it have been to witness the champs back in 1980? The 1980 team had some of Philly's most notorious sports legends, including Pete Rose, Tug McGraw and Milke Schmidt. Oh how glorious it must have been.  Here’s hoping we can witness another sometime soon!

The Moment Geno's was Built Next to Pat's

The moment Geno's was built right in front of Pat's must have been an interesting day and fateful day for Philadelphia. I would argue that the cheesesteak as we know it was born that day.  How did Pat's employees react? Who got the most business that day? Did locals start the whole Pat's/Geno's allegiance right away, or did it evolve over time? The truth has to be out there somewhere, but it happened so long ago, I wouldn't trust anyone to remember, at least, anyone in South Philly.
