BACK TO HOME
Over the past year or so, we've become completely enamored with Twitter. Not only does it limit people to the golden 140-character limit, but it provides us with instantaneous news about everything from sports to localized scandals (and natural disasters). Here's our list of the best local accounts in the Twittersphere, who we think you need to follow immediately.

@PhillyComedy

@PhillyComedy, the Twitter handle for the website It’s Always Funny in Philadelphia, has quite possibly the best coverage of local comedy and all those heady, Philly comedy shorts. It's the kind of stuff you'll be the first to show all your friends on FB, though meanwhile, the Twittersphere has been loving them since day one.

@StreetsDept

Local photog and blogger, Conrad Benner, tirelessly scours the streets of Philadelphia to bring you the best and worst of Philly street art. After gaining a large Twitter following, Conrad has some the best photos you’ll ever see of raw, no-holds-barred Philadelphia.

@Jim_Gardner

Jim Gardner is a Philadelphia patriarch. As such, no Philly-centric Twitter account is complete without a Jim Gardner follow. Even when he's giving you the @reply you've always wanted (which he does a lot) you'll always know he’s always got a Werther’s hard candy in his pocket.

@questlove

Questlove: the famous drummer for the band Philly’s most proud of and an active Twitterer. Given the recent drama surrounding one specific performance involving a GOP political candidtate, Questlove is one Twitterer you that won’t let you down. Tip: Don't ever, ever jinx a Philly sports team in his presence--don't Tweet till they win, he always says.

@CrossingBroad

  It has been a banner year for scandalous sports news, and we've followed Kyle Scott (the guy behind CrossingBroad) through all of it. Whether it's the Eagles, PSU or something about basketball that we normally wouldn't care about, he's miles ahead of many other media sources in the wit and (accurately snarky) commentary departments.

@iPhillyChitChat

  Having run one of the city's most frequented social blogs for the past few years, HughE Dillon's next natural step was attracting the very same, very widespread crowd of fans on Twitter. Follow this shutter bug for commentary on... well, everything scene-related in Philly.

@foobooz

  Openings, closings, health code violations--if someone in the hospitality industry is doing it, Foobooz will tell you. They're the go-to knowledge hub for finding out when Starr's next rumored place will open and (perhaps most importantly) why some bars inexplicably turn BYOB for a month.
