“Have you been to the new Denim?”

It's the question rolling off the tongues of the who’s-who in Philly nightlife; what they are actually referring to is “Whisper" --the newest club (read: douche den) to hit the Philly scene.

Whisper is considered a private club because it is open "after hours" which, in Philly terms, means earlier than closing time in most major cities but later than, say, everywhere but Little Pete's. Upon entry, one must fill out a lengthy questionaire-- one with probing, seemingly irrelevant information (like your bra size) and a blank line for “occupation”. Note: I fully plan to make-out with the first person to write in “douche-bag” or something equally amusing and/or accurate. After scrawling out drunken hieroglyphics onto said form, management takes your oh-so important paper along with ID to be scanned into their system. Then, Voila! You are on the DB map!

Once inside, you’ll notice they’ve made some much-needed changes to the former dump. They've provided ample room so that everyone from the high-heeled gold-diggers to the high-rolling wannabes can showcase their ridiculousness in view of those decidedly not-as-important people in attendance. No longer that cramped hallway feeling of Denim; now the perfect place to have absolutely all eyes on you!

To be fair, the place looks better than I had expected. It has a great sound system, with a music selection proving slightly more satsifying than Denim's days of yore. A much-appreciated area for chairs at the bar gives you room to actually relax and have conversations with your entourage-- and if you opt out of getting bottle service, you can still rest your tired toes from dancing in those Choos. I was impressed with some of the new renovations and by the sole factor that the drinks weren’t overpriced (as is true in many of Philly's would-be lounge clubs). But if you’re a hot girl (like me), you’re definitely not going to be buying your own cocktails here anyway.

If you choose to get bottle service (which, if you’re a guy, is probably going to be the only way you’re going to score a hottie from this place), the VIP lounges are dimly-lit and, despite the somewhat-gawdy decor, are actually quite seductive. I personally witnessed plenty of people making out. Classy.

Of course the crowd was full of the who’s-who? of Philly: the Rittenhouse-loving, club-obsessing, substance-toting crowd along with the more "respectable" tiers, which included a few local celebrities and the presence of yours truly (insert personal opinion here). All in all, I had a decent time. Maybe it was the company I brought on my little journey, maybe it was the booze. But if it's places like this I have to look forward to, the idea of settling down and spawning brats sounds much more appealing. Just kidding. I’ll just stick to G Lounge.

Dixie
Our resident nightlife guru is known around town as Dixie. A former stripper who came to Philly from the south, she is no longer the southern belle with a twang, rather a city slicker with sass. She will take you on a journey many have heard of, but only few have experienced. Dixie will give you a firsthand look of what it’s like to walk in her (very high) heels.
