BACK TO HOME
When you're dining, drinking and otherwise existing on a tightly wound budget, things can get a bit sticky. But instead of feasting on Easy Mac for two weeks just to afford bottle service at Whisper, follow our easy guide to having fun on the cheap. It's all about moderation.

GO TO HAPPY HOUR

As much as they've drilled happy hour specials into our heads over the years, we never quite grasped the money saving potential in a simple 5-7pm period at our favorite bar. Most places offer discounted food in addition to the cheap drinks, so even if you're not looking for a post-work buzz, there's still something in it for you.

SIGN UP FOR DAILY DEALS

We know you've heard of daily deal sites like Groupon and LivingSocial, but there's a new player on the scene. And they're local. Sign up for EatShopGive.com, a super cool site that gives you discounts at tons of Philly establishments, then donates 10% of their sales to a featured charity of the week. Finally, an excuse to spend money on ourselves--it's for charity!

BOOK A SPA APPOINTMENT

Spa treatments are one of those things that are hard to justify in our budgets--especially when our grocery list consists of Kraft Easy Mac and our car is missing a headlight. Luckily, SpaWeek goes down from October 10th through the 16th, giving you deeply discounted treatments at amazing spas throughout the Philadelphia area. Sign up here to book your treatment.

SCOPE OUT THE SPECIALS

Between preseason hockey, regular season football and post-season baseball, we're pretty sure bars have a monopoly on all of us. Luckily, you can still catch a deal at tons of area spots, most notably McFadden's Ballpark and Drinker's (for Phils games) Irish Pub and Chickie's (for the Birds) and Mac's Tavern (for the college games).

CHECK OUT SOME FESTIVALS

Aside from causing a massive amount of traffic, fall festivals can be quite exhilirating for those of us who are dining, drinking and otherwise existing on a tightly ruled budget. Head to Midtown Village Fall Festival on Saturday, October 1 when area vendors line the streets with free samplings, cheap brews and a host of free activities to keep you occupied through the afternoon.

EXPLORE THE CITY

While you may think you’ve experienced everything Philly has to offer, our guess is you haven’t. There are literally thousands of things to see/smell/touch/taste/hear within the city limits and at most they might cost ya a Septa token and a couple of bucks.

USE FOURSQUARE

Yeah yeah, we've heard the complaints about how it's "stalkerish" and you don't want all of your friends to know where you are at any given moment. Check in "off the grid" at whichever local bar is featuring specials--trust us, we've scored free drinks, half-priced apps and even free T-shirts from some of our recent check-ins.
